What is spawn? What is mycelium?
We stock grain spawn at all times, but we will custom produce sawdust or plug spawn of any variety within 2-4 weeks.
I have been cloning and trialing strains of local mushrooms for over a year now.
As of today, I have developed 3 varieties of tree oyster (pleurotus ostreatus) that I feel are excellent cultivars for growing on steamed or boiled straw (or straw/hay mixes.) All of these varieties were cloned from specimens found in north central Vermont and the spawn is only available through Wild Branch Mushrooms.
The oysters are intended for large and small scale production of fresh mushrooms, the mycelium can also be used for mycofiltration or bioremediation uses.
I have 2 local King Stropharia varieties that are intended for growing semi-wild in beds of wood chips and other mulch, companion planting with garden crops, and for setting up filtration mats to clean up farm run-off.
I also have 1 variety of the Garden Oyster (Hyspizigus ulmarius), which is intended to be grown in the same way as Stropharia.
I am developing many other varieties, including Chicken of the Wood, Turkey Tail, Hemlock Reishi, Reishi, Maitake or Hen of the Woods, Tinder Polypore, Shiitake, Portabella, Royal Sun Agaricus or Himematsutake, Lion’s Mane, Bear’s Head Tooth, Morel, Golden Oyster, King Oyster, Shaggy Mane, Nameko, Birch Polypore, and Chaga.
